〔體育中心／綜合報導〕馬刺在今年NBA選秀中先用了第11順位選中塞米諾爾大學的瓦塞兒（Devin Vassell），再以次輪選進杜克大學的大二控衛瓊斯（Tre Jones），而稍早官方證實瓊斯已簽下一紙3年合約，也表示會比一般簽四年約的新秀提早一年成為受限自由球員。
San Antonio has signed the 41st pick in the draft – Duke guard Tre Jones – to a three-year deal, agent @KB_Sports of @BDA_Sports tells ESPN. A three-year deal allows Jones to enter restricted free agency sooner than the traditional four-year contract of second-round picks.

上個賽季瓊斯為杜克大學繳出場均16.2分、6.4助攻、4.2籃板以及1.8抄截的佳績，最後獲得ACC聯盟年度最佳球員和最佳防守球員的榮耀。
ESPN薪資專家馬克斯（Bobby Marks）指出，「在與瓊斯簽定合約後，馬刺隊目前已擁有15名傳統合約球員，也超過豪華稅門檻，可以透過讓渡非保障合約的球員或者T.澤勒（Tyler Zeller）來解決。瓊斯第一年薪水930萬美元將會算在中產條款這個特例裡面。」
