〔體育中心／綜合報導〕洋基今以3：10敗給大都會，吞下近期7連敗，而捕手桑契斯（Gary Sanchez）更在1局下發生離譜失誤，不僅讓球迷大失所望，也引發諸多批評。
當時2出局，洋基以1：0領先，巴耶茲（Javier Baez）擊出左外野安打，但外野手蓋洛（Joey Gallo）很快處理起來，迅速回傳本壘欲刺殺跑者維拉（Jonathan Villar），桑契斯接到回傳球時尙有充裕的時間讓跑者出局，然而這個看似簡單的play，桑契斯卻有如恍神一般，沒有成功觸殺跑者，也讓大都會在該局追平比數。
對於桑契斯這個漫不經心的防守，多名專家也紛紛指責，《CBS Sports》記者維耶提（Danny Vietti）就直呼桑契斯「到底在幹什麼」；《theScore》編輯Brandon Wile則稱這是有史以來最糟的本壘防守。而《ESPN》資深主播歐伯曼（Keith Olbermann）更批評桑契斯「只不過是個DH或2號捕手」。

洋基在上個月創下13連勝的本季最長連勝紀錄，但最近突然遭遇大低潮，苦吞7連敗，近10戰更是吞下8敗，目前以78勝63敗名列美聯東區第3，外卡則排在第2，若近況持續萎靡，極有可能被外卡排名3、僅剩0.5場勝差的藍鳥超車。
